Those who know about T’s Tantan would know that the vegan noodle restaurant chain started in Jiyūgaoka. If you have a day allocated in this stylish but relaxing part of Tokyo, the town has a couple more vegan-friendly cafes and restaurants for you to fill up your stomach with delicious food. Each of them offer something different, giving you the options you need to try something different while traveling.

If you are a vegan, you might have heard of T’s Tantan, a vegan restaurant loved by most vegans in Tokyo. The famous vegan restaurant chain’s origin is T’s Restaurant in Jiyūgaoka. The popular restaurant close to the station is known for its delicious menu formed by various dishes cooked using plenty of vegetables and soy milk.

Plus Veganique JIYUGAOKA (プラスヴィーガニック自由が丘)

While not close to Jiyūgaoka Station, Plus Veganique Jiyugaoka is another highly recommended vegan restaurant in Jiyūgaoka. It is where veganism, organic and macrobiotics are combined. The restaurant features a menu filled with a variety of colorful seasonal vegetables that isn’t just beautifully presented but can nourish your body and mind.

Food is cooked using fresh vegetables delivered directly from contracted farmers. With just one bite, the gentle sweetness and flavor of the vegetables spread in your mouth. In addition to being a plant-based restaurant, they do not use any chemical seasonings.

Plus Veganique Jiyugaoka offers two lunch plates and one set menu for lunch, as well as two dinner courses, to its customers. Although the sets and courses aren’t cheap, the food is tasty, and the portions are generous. If you are an omnivore, you will be so satisfied that it would be hard to believe what you have put into your mouth were only vegetables.

  • Plus Veganique Jiyugaoka is open from Thursday to Monday from
    • 12 pm to 4 pm and 6 pm to 10 pm
    • Dinner is by reservation only. Please make your reservation at least one day in advance.
    • If you want to have lunch before 12 pm on weekends or public holidays, please enquire.
  • The restaurant is an 11-minute walk from Tokyū Dentetsu’s Jiyūgaoka Station (自由が丘駅).

Other Vegan-Friendly Restaurants and Cafes in Jiyūgaoka

  • Fetecafe (フェテカフェ)
    • An organic cafe that can cater to vegan diets between Jiyūgaoka Station and Kuhombutsu Station. The dining space is homey, and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Each dish on the menu is carefully crafted using seasonal ingredients.
    • The cafe is kid-friendly. Bringing a pram to Fetecafe is okay. A kid menu is also available.
    • There are handmade sweets and a wide variety of homemade fruit vinegars on sale. Homemade fruit vinegars are also used in their salad.
    • All baked goods and cakes are made using beet sugar, or cane sugar, instead of white sugar.
    • Remember to make a reservation through Fetecafe’s Instagram Account if you have special dietary requirements.

Besides enjoying food, Jiyūgaoka has much more to offer. The neighborhood named Liberty Hill has many famous sweet makers and stylish boutique shops. From places perfect for taking a break during a date, to photogenic places, and even solemn temples and shrines to pray for relationships, Jiyūgaoka is where you can have a taste of Japan’s capital without being pushed around!
