Tokyo’s Most Fantastic Cat Cafe: Temari no Oshiro

If you are a cat lover and are after a cute cat cafe, visit Temari no Oshiro (Cat cafe てまりのおしろ) in Kichijōji Petit Mura! The cafe, home to around 20 fluffy and friendly cats, is basically a cat castle. Walking through the unusually cute door is like entering the world of cats!

About Temari no Oshiro

The cafe’s architectural concept is a strange castle built by wayward cats. Hence, the building has many small entrances, cat-sized toilet doors, fish bone-shaped lighting, and even the footprints of little cat paws. Even the portraits on the walls are of cats!

Observe carefully for the small details as every corner of Cat Cafe Temari no Oshiro is interesting to explore!

Aside from the normal table sets in the open space, Temari no Oshiro also has domes. These areas are usually assigned to guests in groups of three or more. Through the paw-shaped windows, you can peek into the dome to search for the cats that like to play hide and seek!

The cats in Temari no Oshiro have different characters and personalities. Some are lively and would react to the toys, but others are lazy and don’t care as much.

While picking up cats in the cafe is generally not allowed, you might be lucky if one of them jumps onto your lap or shoulder for your attention!

Tips:
☛ While there is no guarantee that the feeding time won’t change, visit Temari no Oshiro at 10 am to watch the cats being fed. It is the best time for photos!
☛ The cafe also has sockets for charging phones and laptops, allowing you to work remotely at Temari no Oshiro!

The Procedure for Entering Temari no Oshiro

After leaving your shoes at the entrance, head to the register under the plaque with the words ‘Enter the Castle’ (Nyūjō, 入城) written for admission.

There are a few Rule Books placed at the entrance which detail what you need to be aware of at Temari no Oshiro. If you cannot read Japanese, just head to the reception. The staff will explain the rules you need to obey before giving you a “castle entry form” to leave on the table of your choice.

A set amount of cat treats are also on sale each day. These treats are the best thing to attract cats to you. So, if the treats are available when you are admitted, purchase some!

If the cafe is busy on the day, the staff will assign you a vacated table. Each table has a touch-screen panel for food and drink ordering, together with a thick book that explains the personality of each cat in the cafe in Japanese.

The cafe has two stories. After you are seated, feel free to interact with all the cats in Temari no Oshiro!

On the way out, remember to pay your bill. Pet hair removers are also available at the register.

Things to Note at Cat Cafe Temari no Oshiro

  • Please don’t try to hug the cats or give them food other than the cat treats sold at the reception.
  • Please only use the cat toys placed in the cafe. If you have a brand new toy, please show it to the staff first.
  • Please don’t use or turn on the flashlight.

The Menu at Cat Cafe Temari no Oshiro

Unlike other cat cafes, cats aren’t the only selling point at Cat Cafe Temari no Oshiro. Their menu is also superb! Besides tea and coffee, the cafe also has an alcoholic drink menu. Desserts and snacks can also be ordered if you need a little energy boost.

Of course, what is for humans isn’t for cats. So, remember to use the food cover to protect your unfinished food and drinks as you leave your table. Otherwise, the cats might get to it and start consuming your food, which they shouldn’t eat!
