Yumedokoro Unazuki: Unazuki Onsen’s Stylish Public Bathhouse

The most convenient spot to indulge your body in the nice hot spring of Unazuki Onsen is Yumedokoro Unazuki (湯めどころ宇奈月総湯). The public bathhouse is close to Unazuki Station, in the same building as the Unazuki Onsen Information Center. Opened in 2016, it is one of the newest hot spring facilities in the hot spring town. Yumedokoro Unazuki is a great facility to enjoy the hot spring if you don’t plan to spend a night at Unazuki Onsen. Besides the hot spring pools, it also has free foot baths at each entrance and a hot spring drinking fountain!

Unlike most hot spring public bathhouses, the entire facility is modern. The changing room and bathing area are covered with white walls. The onsen tub looks more like a swimming pool!

And if you are curious about the black stones embedded in the onsen pools, those are granites taken from the Kurobe River flowing nearby. You will also notice there is a small square hot spring pool on one side of the large pool. The temperature at this small onsen pool is hotter, at around 43 degrees. Meanwhile, the rest of the pool has a temperature of around 41 degrees.

Yumedokoro Unazuki has two hot spring areas, Momo no Yu (桃の湯) on the 2nd floor and Tsukimi no Yu (月美の湯) on the 3rd floor. If you like an open-air bath, pray for the Tsukimi no Yu to be available for your gender on the day of your visit.

The onsen pools aren’t divided into two sections for different genders. Instead, each gender takes a turn to enjoy the facility. So if you want to explore both hot spring pools at Yumedokoro Unazuki, visit the bathhouse two days a row.

Bathing at Yumedokoro Unazuki

The free amenities at Yumedokoro Unazuki are limited. While shampoo and hair conditioner are provided for free, most others are supplied for a small fee. For example, a mini soap costs 50 yen.

Note: Please purchase your admission ticket from the vending machine. If you need any of the amenities, a ticket for the respective amenity is also required.

As there is no English notation on the machine, speak to a staff for assistance. When you pass the admission ticket to the staff at the reception, you will be given a key to one of the lockers in the changing room.

After a hot spring section, you can also head up to the roof terrace. If the roof terrace is too hot, there is also a resting area next to Momo no Yu on the second floor.

Tips:
☛ You can leave your large luggage at the reception.
☛ Free small lockers are also available at the changing room’s entrance.

Important: Note the hot spring’s temperature is between 40 and 43 degrees, which can be hot for some people.
